13. Holy Transfiguration Ukrainian Greco-Catholic Church
131 Victoria St. S., Kitchener,
www.holytransfigurationkw.com @UCC_Kitchener,
Built 1926,
Step into this unique heritage treasure. Built by the fledgling Ukrainian community that arrived in Kitchener-Waterloo prior to the First World War, it has been a spiritual and cultural home to generations of Ukrainian-Canadians. The interior is appointed in traditional Byzantine style, with an abundance of outstanding, jewel-coloured and gilded iconography painted by master iconographers on the walls, ceiling, and ornate carved wood iconostasis (icon wall). Other highlights include a magnificent brass chandelier from Greece. During an afternoon talk, explore Holy Transfiguration’s artwork in depth.
