built 1844, 1885
design: R.C. Windeyer (1885)
Trinity, celebrating 175 years in 2019, is Galt’s oldest church building and the oldest stone church in Waterloo Region. This beautiful, simple Gothic Revival building is set in a traditional churchyard surrounded by a cobblestone fence with a lych-gate of 1909. Inside, the exposed-timber roof has heavy trusses decorated with ornate fretwork – a must-see. Also see beautiful stained glass windows, vintage wood trim, and lots of carved woodwork in the chancel by Waterloo’s Globe Furniture Company. The 1840s bell is still in use. The porch, and tower with original staircase and tin ceiling, were added in 1885. Refreshments will be served, for a freewill donation.
