Westheights Pond - The Heart of the Neighbourhood!
The most notable feature that everyone loves about Westheights Park is its beautiful pond. Westheights Pond has provided life to many species of plants and wildlife. It has been a learning destination for school trips, and has been a peaceful sanctuary for all who travel past for decades. Unfortunately, this natural kettle lake has been neglected over many years and has filled up with sediment, garbage and invasive plants. Because of this neglect, our special pond is shrinking and dying. The depth has been drastically reduced as the bottom moves closer to the surface.
It doesn't have to end badly, however, if the city can direct appropriate funding to clean the bottom, remove invasive plants and increase the pond's depth. Adding a fountain to help circulate the water and improve oxygen levels is another worthwhile suggestion that has been made to the city. Of all the ways to spend tax dollars on this park, the most critical is to restore the pond itself. The pond is the main attraction of this beautiful natural area and it must be sustained and protected so that wildlife can flourish and everyone can enjoy it for generations to come. Please save Westheights Pond! Thank you for this opportunity.
