My Husband Proposed Here

Hopefully the title of this post shows clearly how significant this park is to us! We go on walks here almost daily, and when my husband proposed to me on a morning walk in May 2023, I knew that we would have to capture the significance of this pond in all of our memories to come. Although still very beautiful, we have definitely noticed the deterioration of this pond through the years and changing seasons. We are concerned when we see the many goldfish in the pond, water line receding and lack of wildlife returning, that we would notice in previous years. The pond is a pivotal element of the Westheights community, and we support doing everything we can to improve the conditions for future generations to enjoy!

What a lovely memory and story to share…our family too has noticed the decline you speak to … we moved to this area in 2016 and have enjoyed many adventures through the forest and visits to the pond. The garbage that is disposed of in and around the pond is sad to see - as is the vandalism from time to time whether it’s to the bench or the signage…to then see the encroaching weeds and Lilly’s, lowering water levels with fewer ducks and geese … we hope that as a community and a city all efforts can be put forward to restore and preserve this pond we are lucky to have.
