Project Update - August 2024

Notice of Study Completion - August 21, 2024

The Environmental Study Report (ESR) will be placed on the public record for a 30-day review period in accordance with the requirements of the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment process, from August 21, 2024 to September 20, 2024. Subject to comments received as a result of this notice and necessary approvals, the project may proceed to construction as scheduled. The ESR is available under the "Key Documents" section of this page.

The project team developed a recommended design that was presented at the February 6, 2024 Planning and Works Committee for review, and to Regional Council for final approval on February 21, 2024.

The recommended design was the outcome of the technical studies conducted, a detailed alternatives assessment based on a set of evaluation criteria, and public input from three rounds of public engagement. Material from the three round of public consultation can be found under the "Public Consultation 1, 2 & 3 Documents" section of this project page.

The Recommended Design Alternative includes:

  • Removing the existing steel Bailey trusses.
  • Replacing deteriorated wooden truss members and bridge elements.
  • Reinforcing select members to accommodate a 10-tonne design live load.
  • Maintaining the three-tonne posted load limit.
  • Installing an overhead height restriction bar on the north approach and narrowing the road on the south approach to prevent oversized vehicles from accessing and damaging the bridge.

Following the 30-day review period for the ESR, construction is expected to begin in 2025 and be complete in 2026.
