Project background
In 2020, Council approved the 20-year Cycling and Trails Master Plan. It guides the development of safe and comfortable active transportation options. The plan identifies a complete route network across Kitchener. It also includes the direction to create a wayfinding strategy. In 2023, we created more wayfinding guidance with other Waterloo Region local governments.
Developing city-wide active transportation routes is also an action in the 2023-2026 Strategic Plan. The aim is to:
- encourage the use of active transportation
- connect neighbourhoods through holistic trail and bike route enhancements
- make routes easy to identify, navigate, and use for all ages and abilities
We are now creating a wayfinding strategy to help residents more easily navigate the city by walking, rolling and cycling. This project brings together existing efforts to develop city-wide routes and trails.
