Construction update

We have experienced delays on this project and the new targeted construction completion date is early to mid-July.

This project was initially expected to be completed in Fall 2023, in time for the fields to be open for the 2024 ball season. However, there have been delays due to changes in scope and, most recently, due to weather.

The original plan was to plant grass seed on the ball fields, but during the 2023 construction, the City was able to allocate funds to use sod instead. This changed the scope of the contract and added work to the end of the 2023 construction season.

Due to the very wet weather in April and May, the contractor hasn't been able to complete the final grading of the topsoil and prepare the fields for play. The fields must be completely dry before equipment can be brought back to finish the work.

We are optimistic that with the weather warming up this work will proceed shortly, and we expect to open the fields for play in early to mid-July. The areas outside the playing fields will not be sodded and will require some additional time, but the ball diamonds will be complete and ready for play.
