Review and update of the City's parking requirements for new development to make optimal use of land and promote affordability. Create a streamlined process and monitoring framework for reviewing further reduced parking requests for developments containing affordable units.
The City is reviewing its parking requirements for new housing development and considering updates to make optimal use of land and promote affordability, particularly in areas well-supported by transit. This review will include the creation of a process for considering further parking reductions for secured affordable housing developments.
Key actions:
Research, consult on and develop parking policies and regulations
Develop process, legal agreement templates and monitoring framework for reviewing additional parking reductions requests for affordable housing
Seek council approval for new Official Plan policies, Zoning By-law Amendment and parking review processes
Net new units: 22
Implementation timeline: December 1, 2023 to December 1, 2025
