Community feedback and next steps

Staff have been consulting with the public and Indigenous communities on the opportunity of using the City-owned property at 2025 University Ave E for an affordable and attainable housing development. Staff are bringing a report back to Council Monday, May 27, 2024 (report is page 47 of the Revised Packet) with a summary of the feedback collected, and revisions to the general proposal for the lands and the proposed planning process.

Staff engaged with the community on the proposal for 2025 University Ave E through a Public Information Session, held on May 8, 2024, an online survey and by email/phone. The staff report summarizes the feedback received and responds to some of the questions raised. In response to feedback collected, staff have proposed a more detailed vision for the site and general directions for a site specific zoning by-law to implement the vision. Staff are seeking Council’s endorsement of the vision to convert this property from employment to residential with the proposed zoning directions and recommend that Council direct staff to submit a request for an MZO in accordance with the directions set out in this report and the new Provincial MZO framework (https://www.ontario.ca/page/zoning-order-framework).
