Winning playground design

Concept 1 has been selected as the winning playground design for Rummelhardt park. The playground features a double slide and a curved slide, a spiral staircase, various climbers and a built-in farmer’s market stand and pilot’s panel to encourage imaginative play and exploration.Thank you to everyone who took the time to vote. In total, we received 43 responses to the survey, with a majority (60.5%) selecting Concept 1 as the preferred playground design.Next steps
Now that a design has been selected, we will place our order for the equipment and proceed to the construction phase of this project. -

Concept 1
This play structure includes:
- A double slide and a 190-degree curved slide.
- A spiral staircase, challenge stairs and climbers at different heights for climbing challenges.
- A built-in farmer’s market stand and pilot’s panel to encourage imaginative play and exploration.
- Monkey bars and accessible rings for strength and physical activity.
- A transfer station to support accessibility.
- Additional features include a table and chairs, a fence with a wheel, balance elements and a spinner.
- Both concepts also include the same swing set, which features a toddler swing seat, a belt/sling style seat and an accessible swing seat.
Concept 2
- A double slide.
- A spiral staircase, climbing net and climbers at different heights for climbing challenges.
- A built-in ice-cream counter to encourage role playing and interaction.
- Talk tubes and tables and chairs to encourage imaginative play and communication.
- Various game panels for fun sensory development.
- A transfer station to support accessibility.
- Additional features balance elements and a spinner.
- Both concepts also include the same swing set, which features a toddler swing seat, a belt/sling style seat and an accessible swing seat.

What we heard about the Rummelhardt playground

In total, we received over 80 survey responses. Additionally, we heard from attendees during our in-person information session on April 25.
Here's what we learned:
- This park is visited at least once a week or more by people of all ages from the neighbourhood.
- The highly requested amenities to include in the playground replacement were swings, slides, climbing amenities, and opportunities for interactive play.
- Other amenities requested that will be explored for incorporation include monkey bars, multi-person spinners, inclusionary and accessible amenities, as well as opportunities to include creative and imaginative play.
Next steps
- We will now look for a playground supplier for this project and have them develop two concepts for final selection.
- Once the concepts are available, community members will be invited to vote on their preferred concept.
