The City of Waterloo has retained Novus Contracting Inc. to construct Roger Street Park. The contractor will begin construction this fall, with completion expected in spring 2024.

In December of 2021, City of Waterloo asked residents to vote on their preferred playground design for Roger Street Park. The survey results indicate that:
79.4% of respondents preferred Option 1.
20.6% of respondents preferred Option 2.
Given survey results, the City will order play equipment from Option 1 to be included in the park. If you would like to see the playground designs, you may find images in the supporting documents tab.
Next steps:
At this time the Roger Street Park project is still on time. Construction of this park is anticipated to begin in spring of 2022. The City will continue working with GSP Group on detailed design documents with anticipation of our construction start. Please continue to follow the Roger Street Park project page for any updates.

In the summer of 2021, City of Waterloo encouraged residents to share their thoughts on the type of playground equipment they’d like to see for the Roger Street Park. The engagement revealed that residents preferred a design that included a junior-senior climbing structure and ground level play amenities for all ages.
The survey results indicate that:
- 48.6% of respondents preferred Option 3 - A combined junior/senior climbing structure (ages 18 months to 12 years) and ground level play elements for all age groups such as spring toys, seesaws, spinning elements and play panels
- 30.3% of respondents preferred Option 1 - A senior climbing structure (ages 5 years to 12 years) with junior level ground play components such as spring toys and play panels (ages 18 months to 5 years)
- 21.1% of respondents preferred Option 2 - A combined junior/senior climbing structures ( ages 18 months to 12 years) with a disk swing
In addition, the survey results indicate that:
- 93.9% of respondents do not require enhanced accessible needs for their children
- 6.1% of respondents do require enhanced accessible needs for their children, such as wheelchair accessibility, high contrast to support visual impairments, support for sensory needs
