Project Details

We have scheduled road and sewer improvements in your neighbourhood. Construction is likely to begin on or about April 3, 2023 and likely to end on or about November 28, 2023. This project will only go ahead with Council budget approval in early 2023.

We will notify you by mailed letter when we have a confirmed date and schedule for construction. We will also notify you closer to the start date of construction to tell you how long access to your driveway will be affected.

About the road reconstruction

The specific improvements scheduled for this street are:
  • Upgrade the existing storm sewer, sanitary sewer and water mains, including more hydrants.
  • Replace existing sanitary and water services from the new mains to the property line.
  • Install curb and gutter, and sidewalks
  • Upgrade the asphalt roadway.
  • Replace all driveway ramp entrances in concrete.

We are including some elements of the “Complete Streets” approach. This will result in a narrower roadway and wider sidewalks on both sides of the street (Henry Sturm Greenway to Highland Road West only). We will increase the width of the sidewalk on both sides of the street from 1.5m to 1.8m. We will also reduce the roadway asphalt width from 9.5m to 7.0m. No changes to on street parking are expected.

We are making these improvements to upgrade the existing deteriorated underground services and above-ground surface features. The project is funded through utility user fees and will not result in a direct charge to the homeowner.

What you need to know

To carry out these improvements, it will be necessary to close this street to through traffic. Before any road closure, we will post signs on the approaching streets letting motorists know the date and duration of the closure.

Walking access will be available to all properties at all times. Access by car will be available to properties in the construction area for as long as possible. We will hand deliver on-street parking permits to affected homes before car access is cut off. This will allow you to park on nearby side streets.

You can find more information about the project and how it may affect you by viewing the:

Before construction starts, we will do a survey of the existing homes and businesses. This is to determine the condition of the buildings in the construction area. The selected consulting firm will contact you to schedule a voluntary inspection of the outside and inside of your building. This inspection protects the property owner.

The construction is now complete, and the project has entered the maintenance phase. This means we will inspect all aspects of the work done to ensure that it meets our standards. We will also address any deficiencies. Once this phase is complete, we will add a final layer of surface asphalt. This is usually about two years from the start of maintenance. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Engineering division at 519-741-2345 or engineering@kitchener.ca
