This project has concluded. The traffic calming measures were installed, and responses from residents suggested no further action was needed. If you have any questions, please contact TransportationPlanning@kitchener.ca

In 2018, we initiated a formal traffic calming review for Old Chicopee Drive. This was in response to resident concerns about road safety on Old Chicopee Drive. As a result of this review, the following traffic calming measures were installed on Old Chicopee Drive in 2019 after resident support and Council approval:

  • A roadway narrowing located on the eastern leg of the intersection of Conway Drive and Old Chicopee Drive.
  • A mid-block roadway narrowing located to the east of the intersection of Boundbrook Court and Old Chicopee Drive. This included an extension of the sidewalk on the south side of Old Chicopee Drive in order to provide a safer crossing area for pedestrians.
  • A speed hump located at the Dom Cardillo trail crossing that falls approximately 200m to the north of the intersection of River Road and Old Chicopee Drive.
  • Additional signage intended to enhance the visibility of the all-way stop located at the intersection of Holborn Drive and Old Chicopee Drive.

In October 2021, we collected traffic volume and speed data on Old Chicopee Drive. That data was compared to the data taken prior to the initiation of the traffic calming review in the fall of 2017.

Neighbourhood participation has been essential throughout the traffic calming process. At this point, we would like your feedback on the effects of the traffic calming on Old Chicopee Drive. Please complete the follow-up survey below (via the Survey tool), before March 18, 2022.

If you have any questions or would like a paper copy of the survey, please reach out to Steven Ryder, Traffic Planning Analyst (contact information found in the Who's Listening widget on the right side of the page).
