Your Meadowlane Park, your watershed

There will be some activity in Meadowlane Park on or around Nov. 11, 2024.

We will be doing archaeological studies in the park. This is a required investigation in preparation for the Meadowlane Park stormwater management pond construction in 2025. On or around Nov. 11, archaeologists will visit the park and hand dig test pits, which they will sift for artifacts. All pits dug will be filled in at the end of the investigation.

• Design: We heard general support for the final design option and appreciation for how it preserves the park's essence and supports wildlife and pollinators
• Amenities: You like the addition of natural seating and year-round trails
• Mount Frederick: We heard that Mount Frederick is an important year-round amenity, and you are happy to see it stay in the design
• Planting: You were supportive of the planting plan which includes more trees and native plants
• Maintenance: You would like to see regular maintenance of the pond and plantings once built

How we have engaged the community lately

We are continuing to work on the design of a stormwater pond in Meadowlane Park:

• On November 8, 2023 we held an Open House to gather feedback on six (6) design options
• Over the winter and spring, we developed a design shaped by the public feedback we received, internal feedback and constraints
• On June 10, 2024, we presented a draft design to the Meadowlane Park Community Resource Group (CRG) and used their feedback to refine the design

Due to the weather, we have moved the open house to the Meadowlane Public School parking lot (236 Forestwood Drive).

We’ll be there from 3 to 7 p.m. today, just look for the tents. Drop by any time to view the final park design and learn more about the project. Reep Green Solutions will also be there to share interactive games, activities, and climate adaptation education.

If you can’t make it, we’ll post the materials online later this afternoon and you’ll have the option to answer a survey instead.

Thank you to all who registered for the open house on July 16, 2024. The event will be in the park near the pollinator garden. You can enter the park from Royal Orchard Drive.

It’s been several months since we met with the community at the November 2023 Open House to share design options for Meadowlane Park. We’re almost ready to share a draft design that the community’s feedback helped shape.

We met with the Meadowlane Community Resource Group on June 10, to gather their initial feedback. This summer we will be looking for comments and feedback from the community on those designs.

About the open house:

• Learn more about the project and review the design.
• Drop in anytime. Staff and consultants will be available to receive your feedback and answer questions.
• Cool treats and children’s activities will be available.
• Reep Green Solutions will share interactive games, activities, and climate adaptation education.

If you can't attend this in-person event, you can participate virtually. We will post materials on this webpage for you to review and comment on close to the event.

• Significance of Mt. Frederick: We heard about the importance of Mt. Fredrick as a park amenity for the community year-round.
• Accessible trails: You want trails to be accessible and cleared in winter.

• Meadowlane Park as a gathering Space: You expressed the importance of having a space for activities and learning.
• Safety: You are concerned with safety around the pond during winter months.

We also heard ideas of what you want incorporated into designs for the stormwater pond and the park. You would like the design to include:

Some of you have asked, “What more can be done in our neighbourhood to reduce the amount of runoff that reaches the park/creek?”

As you know, we are working to better manage runoff in Sandrock Creek with a stormwater project in Meadowlane Park. Meanwhile, our partner Reep Green Solutions, can help residents who live upstream from the project manage rain and reduce runoff that reaches the park.

The Rain Smart Neighbourhoods Project helps you plan projects for your yard that will help reduce flood risk in the neighbourhood by planting more trees, building rain gardens, soaking up rain in permeable paving, and more.

This spring, join Reep’s Healthy Yard Webinar Series to learn how you can make changes in your yard that will improve the nature in your neighbourhood and extend the benefits of this project! You can also learn more about Healthy Yard Consultations, available to residents who want to help reduce flood risk for the neighbourhood with actions in their own yard.
