Transcript - Final design - Pond safety measures
This slide is about the pond safety features. We know that safety is very important to the community, and we want to keep everyone safe.
The first features are safety pools and an aquatic shelf. The water level at the edge of the pond will be shallow. This means if someone enters the pond, they are in shallow water and it is easy to get out.
The second features are walkable slopes and a vegetated barrier. The slopes of the pond are not very steep. This means if someone if someone enters the pond, it is easy for them to climb out. The slopes are also planted with a lot of vegetation. This discourages people from trying to walk down the slope.
The third features are safety stations. Safety stations include a rope and floatable ring that can be thrown to someone in case of an emergency.
The fourth feature is the fence. Much of the distance around the pond will be fenced to discourage people from entering the pond. This is especially helpful while the plants on the slopes are young and not very big.
The fifth feature is warning signage. These are signs the City places at all ponds. It tells people that access to the pond is prohibited, and that in the wintertime, the ice is not safe.
Lastly, a safety grate will be installed on any open storm sewers so that it is not possible for people to climb into the sewer (and to keep animals out).
