This video will discuss the key elements of the proposed site plan for Meadowlane Park.

At the top of the screen you can see Mount Frederick. We heard from the community that they don't want changes to Mount Frederick. Mount Frederick will stay where it is. The slopes of this hill will remain the same as they are right now. The back side of the hill will be planted for more shading and safety. A large area of open space will be available to the north and east side of the hill.

A stormwater pond will be built in the open area between Mount Frederick and the hydro corridor. Water will enter the pond near the hydro corridor. During a rain event, water levels in the pond will increase, then slowly fall back to the normal water level. An underground outlet from the pond will release the treated water back into Sandrock Creek. If the maximum water level in the pond is reached, water will spill over the trail and be directed to the creek. This will only happen during very large rain events.

The existing trail will be removed and replaced with a City standard asphalt trail up to McGarry Drive. This will be wider than it is right now, and will be paved so that water doesn't pond and block the trail. A stone dust trail will circle the rest of the pond and connect to the existing trail to Royal Orchard Place and the Forest Heights Community Trail.

A fence is proposed around most of the pond, shown by an orange line on the figure. The fence is on both sides of the trail next to Mount Frederick. It is on the pond side of the trail for the rest of the locations.

Armourstone will provide seating terraces, and will also provide slope support. You can see what armourstone looks like in Photo 2. On the figure it is shown as white rectangles.

There are several new amenities that are proposed. These include:

  • Two entrance nodes that have wayfinding, an entrance sign, and boulder seating.
  • Three creek overlooks. Two have a grassy terrace and a deconstructed armourstone wall. One has an asphalt surface.
  • An entrance lookout over the pond. This will be a fenced concrete surface with interpretive signage and standard benches.
  • A short trail off the main trail with interpretive signage and a stonedust surface
  • A natural play area with climbing hills, vertical logs and balancing branches, a sand play area, mulch pathways, and tactile plantings.
  • A nature exploration area with insect walls; butterfly, bat and bird boxes; log seating; pollinator plantings; and a mulch surface.
  • Two trail lookouts over the pond. These will include a fence, boulder seating, and a stonedust surface.
  • A quiet seating node with log seating, shade trees, and a sod surface.

The next video will talk about the planting plan.
