This project supports the Region of Waterloo's strategic focus areas:

In response to the urgent needs in the community, a new Overnight Warming Centre is opening at 298 Lawrence Ave in Kitchener, as part of the Plan to End Chronic Homelessness.

Operated by Thresholds Homes and Supports, this new warming centre will be opening on January 17 to support individuals who need to warm up from the cold weather.

Thresholds Homes and Supports is a recovery-oriented, community-integrated agency that focuses on improved quality of life and enhanced independence for people experiencing mental health issues by providing access to affordable housing and flexible, individualized support.

Background:

The number of individuals currently experiencing homelessness in the Region is unprecedented. Similar to many communities across Canada, we are seeing the effects of poverty, mental health issues, rising housing costs and impacts of the opioid crisis, first-hand in our community.

Through system planning and partnerships, Region of Waterloo Housing Services is working to increase capacities across the shelter system to meet occupancy needs.
