Council Approves 2022 Budget
Thank you for participating in the Budget 2022 survey. The budget process allows council to prioritize the programs and services we deliver and sets direction for the work to be completed over the upcoming year.
Staff have reviewed the survey results, which show the most preferred option was to invest capital dollars into an affordable housing reserve fund.
During the budget process, council directed staff to find additional sources of capital funding, which resulted in a total capital investment of $2.75 million. The split was:
- $2 million to establish an affordable housing reserve fund, aimed at covering the development charges incurred by affordable and supportive housing projects.
- $500,000 into community trails, which will add an additional 1,100 metres of paved trail to Kitchener’s network
- $250,000 to renovate the Lyle Hallman Pool.
Household impact
For the average residential property in Kitchener, the rate increases for 2022 are:
- A property tax increase of 1.99 per cent
- A water utilities increase of 2.2 per cent
- A gas increase of 10.4 per cent
This represents an annual increase of about $49 for property tax and water utilities and about a $74 annual increase for natural gas due to the increase in supply that is being felt across the province and country.
