Welcome to the Housing Solutions Lab Engage WR page! This project aims to open up community housing units for households on the waiting list by supporting tenants into home-ownership. This initiative is led by a project team of Regional staff with support from Overlap Associates and is funded through a Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corporation Solutions Lab grant.
In Waterloo Region and across Canada, there are few financial or other supports available to help tenants in community housing move into home-ownership. This leads to low turnover in community housing, which means more people on the waiting list and more households waiting longer for units to open up.
The year-long project began in May and will involve problem-solving and developing innovative practices, methods, and tools to support community housing tenants into home-ownership. The solutions developed will encourage positive transitions for individuals and families moving into and on from community housing. These solutions will be piloted with about 10 households, and the findings will be shared with the community through this project page.
