Frederick Street Shelter
This project supports the Region of Waterloo's Strategic Plan Growing with Care:
An emergency shelter for those experiencing unsheltered homelessness has been operating at 84 Frederick Street, Kitchener, providing much needed support to our community since it opened as an emergency shelter in the 1970s. Operated by the YWKW, it provides emergency shelter and basic needs for women and non-binary individuals and has been part of the Region of Waterloo Council-approved and community-developed Interim Housing Solutions plan.
In response to the urgent needs in the community, Region of Waterloo Council approved the purchase of the building at 84 Frederick Street in Kitchener. We will begin renovations in the coming months and will work on plans to open this new emergency shelter.
Emergency shelters provide essential supports to those experiencing chronic homelessness in our community. The service and supports offered at 84 Frederick will be determined in the coming months by the needs of the population.
