Downtown Waste Management Survey
We are preparing for our next curbside waste collection contract that will start in March 2026 and we’re looking at any necessary changes for downtown cores.
Currently, there are varying levels of waste collection services provided to downtown residential and non-residential customers in the cities of Cambridge, Kitchener and Waterloo, and the townships of North Dumfries, Wellesley, Wilmot and Woolwich. Last year, Regional Council approved a review of the current collection services provided to the downtown areas and recommended new options to consider in the next waste contract. This review may see changes to how often waste is collected, the types of waste that is collected, the method of collection (potentially carts versus bags) or that no changes are done at all.
Since that Council approval, we retained Dillon Consulting Limited to do a service level review of downtown non-residential waste for the cities and townships which includes consulting with city staff and downtown businesses to develop service options for consideration. Some consultation began last year.
We are now looking for input from downtown businesses to better understand your waste management needs. We need your input to help us understand how businesses are currently using collection services in the downtown areas. The feedback received from all consultation will be used to develop and analyze options for the future curbside collection contract for the downtown areas.
