Thank you for growing a greener Kitchener with us
We are thrilled to announce the successful completion of the 2024 Community Canopy pilot project in Chandler Mowat! We planted 154 new trees, enhancing the area's urban forest.
Key highlights included:
- Private property plantings: Reep Green Solutions planted 54 trees on private properties, including four schools and a church
- Public space plantings: The City planted 100 trees in public spaces, including the Community Centre, boulevards and Laurentian Park
These efforts mark an exciting step forward, but our work is far from done. There are 70 more planting opportunities identified in this neighbourhood. The City will continue to plant trees over the next two years in those locations.
A heartfelt thank you goes out to the residents who contributed. You answered surveys, attended events, and welcomed trees onto your properties. Your participation has been vital to this project’s success.
There is a clear need for sustained tree planting in neighborhoods with low canopy cover. We’re proud to make Community Canopy an annual initiative. This will involve planning a 5-year strategy to expand tree planting in neighbourhoods with the fewest trees.
We look forward to continuing to grow a greener Kitchener together!
This project is now complete. With your help, we planted a total of 154 new trees in the Chandler Mowat neighbourhood. We will plant another 70 trees in the neighbourhood beginning in 2025. For more information on City of Kitchener tree maintenance and planting, visit kitchener.ca
