As part of the Municipal By-law Compliance Strategy, the City of Cambridge is conducting a review of our Fireworks By-law, which sets restrictions for setting off fireworks within City limits to ensure that Cambridge continues to be a safe, inclusive, and enjoyable community for all.

Did you know fireworks can only be set off on Victoria Day, Canada Day and Diwali? To use fireworks on any other day, you must get a permit from the City.

We want to hear from our community!

Join the conversation and have your say on fireworks by completing our five (5) minute survey, your feedback will help staff develop a recommendation to improve the City's Fireworks By-law and ensure that Cambridge continues to be a safe, inclusive, and enjoyable community for all. The survey will close on Friday, March 15, 2024 at 11:59 p.m.

If you would like the survey in an alternate format, please submit your request to John Mattocks, Manager of Municipal By-law Compliance at 519-623-1340 extension 4501 or mattocksj@cambridge.ca.

Thanks for your question. The current fireworks by-law states that "No person shall set off any firework in or into any public highway, street, lane, square or other public place, provided that this shall not be deemed to prohibit a fireworks display in a public park or other public place in accordance with a permit issued under the provisions of this by-law".

How close to a house can people let off fireworks?

    Krista1975 asked 10 months ago

Hello, Thank you for your question. Currently there are no regulations that specify how far/close fireworks can be from a house. In the current by-law there is a regulation that speaks to no person shall set off or allow to be set off any firework in such a place or in such a manner as might create danger to any person or property or to cause or allow any unsafe act or omission at the time and place of the setting off of any fireworks.
