This consultation and Phase 1 of this project are now complete. A summary report of the engagement is available. Phase 2 will take place through the Official Plan update. For more information, visit Kitchener 2051.

We are doing a study on the Belmont Village Urban Corridor to review existing planning policies and guidelines. The study will identify what we might need to better align with the vision for Belmont Avenue West and its role as an "urban corridor" within the city. If necessary, we might make changes to our zoning by-laws and urban design guidelines.

We are looking for your comments and ideas about the look and feel of Belmont Avenue West. We also want to hear your ideas on amenities and streetscaping for future developments. Help us plan the future of the Belmont Village Urban Corridor.

How can you get involved?

As part of this project, you will have opportunities to engage with us. We want to hear from you!

Thank you for your question. The banner photo used on this webpage was taken on Belmont Avenue West within the study area boundary.

City of Kitchener Council directed staff to initiate a planning study for the Belmont Village Urban Corridor, which extends from Union Street to Karn Street. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the applicable planning policies, refine policy directions, and include a comprehensive engagement plan for residents, businesses, and the community at-large.

  • Share I wonder if it still makes sense to have 4 vehicle lanes passing through Belmont Village. I don't believe it is a main thoroughfare to anywhere, so do we need the current layout? Is there a better way to use that prime real estate than what it is currently? on Facebook Share I wonder if it still makes sense to have 4 vehicle lanes passing through Belmont Village. Thank you for your comment. Kitchener's Official Plan identifies Belmont Avenue as a City Arterial Street. City Arterial Streets provide mobility for people and goods through and within the city and provide opportunities for transit and dedicated cycling facilities where identified in Kitchener's Cycling and Trails Mater Plan. The redesign of Belmont Avenue is not part of the Belmont Village Urban Corridor Study however these comments will be shared with Kitchener transportation staff.
