Final concept and project update
We have a few updates to share on the park improvement project at Alpine Park.
Final concept
We would like to thank all those who shared their thoughts with us during the engagement on the Alpine Park project.
Your feedback showed us that most respondents want to enjoy nature, and visit and explore the forest. We also heard that the ability to play with children is desired, with a preference for a traditional playground. You also want to see more seating options throughout the park such as benches, and a gathering area with shade.
Your input has been used to shape the park design for Alpine Park: View the final concept and woodlot trails layout plans.
The full engagement report with more detail will be posted to Engage soon.
We are working towards construction on Alpine Park in 2023.
Archaeological assessment
Fieldwork for the archaeological assessment of Alpine Park was completed in July. Following feedback received from First Nations rights-holders, additional fieldwork was completed in November.
In December, the stage 1 / stage 2 archaeological assessment was submitted to the Ministry of Citizenship and Multiculturalism (MCM), formerly the Ministry of Heritage Sport Tourism and Culture (MHSTC). We await their compliance letter confirming the report has been submitted to the Ontario Public Register of Archaeological Reports.
Tree removals in the woodlot
This winter, you will see some tree removal work happening in the Alpine Park woodlot. This is part of the regular maintenance of the woodlot, and to prepare for the trail work planned next year.
