​Gaukel Block is here!

On June 17, 2023, we celebrated the official opening of Gaukel Block - Kitchener's newest placemaking space. It has been years in the making and would not have been possible without the vision, passion, and collaboration of many individuals, including you!

The Gaukel Block puts people at the centre of the street’s function, the connections between them and the creativity, economic prosperity and good ol' fun that comes when people have vibrant places to not just move through but stay, rest, gather, create and celebrate.

Thank you to the Government of Canada's support through the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario, with a $500,000 investment into retail and storage infrastructure, as well as supporting the new public art and greenery installations. Electricity has been brought into the space to support all types of activations and community events. We also have a variety of new seating options including benches, swing tables and accessible seating.

The Gaukel Block will continue to evolve as each one of us interacts with the space and brings it to life. Enjoy!
