About the project
The Region of Waterloo plans to construct a multi-use path connection between Manitou Drive west to an existing path on Block Line Road in Kitchener. The two-way multi-use path will be approximately 1.3 km long and 3 meters wide to accommodate walking, cycling and other modes of active transportation.
The path will include a pedestrian/cycling bridge over Schneider Creek, a railway crossing, and connections to existing trails nearby. The path will also complete a missing section of the Trans Canada Trail, making that trail more fluid and enjoyable through the Kitchener section.
Project background
This multi-use path is needed in this area to provide accessible active transportation facilities that could not be accommodated on Courtland Avenue due to space limitations.
The property that the path will go through belongs to the City of Kitchener, Hydro One, CN Rail, The Grand Trunk Railway Company of Canada, Galt Guelph Railway Company and private ownership.
Recommended route
In consultation with property owners, agencies and Indigenous communities, multiple route options have been considered for this path. Based on these consultations, the project team is recommending a route for the path that has the least amount of property impact and meets accessibility requirements.
Strategic focus
This project supports the Region of Waterloo's strategic focus areas: Climate aligned growth and Homes for all
Engagement
The public engagement period for this project is now complete. The input received during this time is being considered by the project team along with technical requirements to create a detailed design of the multi-use path.
