This project supports the Region of Waterloo's strategic focus area(s):
Fischer Hallman Rd. Looking Southerly Towards New Dundee Rd. In a continued effort to enhance service and safety on the Regional road network for pedestrians, cyclists and drivers, Regional staff reviewed traffic operations at the intersection of Fischer-Hallman Rd. and New Dundee Rd. The findings, which included a review of safety performance and consideration of the societal cost of injury crashes, resulted in a recommendation to construct a roundabout at this location.
Project update – Planning and Works Committee meeting, October 4, 2022
On October 4 at the Planning and Works Commitee, staff is recommending that the Region move forward with the construction of this roundabout. If approved, construction is planned for 2024
Staff has made the recommendation based on the review of technical information and all public comments received.
The recommendation is for a partial two-lane roundabout, with a southbound through-right turn lane and a left turn lane, a westbound through-left turn lane and a right turn lane, and single lanes for the remaining entrances and exits.
The Regional Planning and Works Committee meeting starts at approximately 9 a.m., and is streamed live.
If you wish to appear as a delegation virtually or in person at this meeting, please complete the online form, email regionalClerk@regionofwaterloo.ca, or call 519-575-4400 and ask for the Office of the Regional Clerk. Delegations should plan to register 24 hours in advance of the meeting if they wish to speak for the full-time allotment. After 24 hours, the speaker time is reduced.
The staff report will be available after 4:30 p.m. on September 27, 2022.
Thank you for your feedback
Thank you to everyone who commented on the proposed improvements.
Feedback from the public included concerns as well as support for the roundabout. The main themes raised by the public and adjacent property owners are below:
• Concerns for the safe passage of large trucks and agricultural equipment.
• Concerns about properly educated roundabout users.
• Concerns for increased vehicle approach speeds and increased speed in the roundabout.
• Benefit from improved traffic flow and reduced wait times for vehicles approaching and moving through the roundabout.
• Benefit from reduced speeds and reduced collisions in the intersection.
• Concerns for cost and impact from roundabout construction.
A summary of all public comments and project team responses is included in the staff report.
If you have concerns or questions about the project, please email Steve Yonemitsu, P.Eng, Engineer at: syonemitsu@regionofwaterloo.ca.
