Peter Street & Park Street Reconstruction

The Township of Wellesley has retained GEI Consultants to provide engineering services and project management to complete this road infrastructure improvement project. The scope of work will include replacement of the underground storm and water distribution networks as well as new surface features including sidewalks, curbs, new asphalt and safety measures such as speed humps.

This project will be funded from the provincial Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund (OCIF) and the Wellesley Township Infrastructure Reserve.

Information Session FAQs

Scope of the Reconstruction Project:

A full road reconstruction will be completed including new watermains and storm sewer infrastructure. This project may also include sidewalks and multi-use trails for safer active transportation for pedestrians.

Timeline for this Project:

This project will be completed in 2 phases over the next 2 years.

Phase 1, 2027: Full underground infrastructure and surface works construction on Maple Street, Green Street and Peter Street.

Phase 2, 2028: Full underground infrastructure and surface works construction on Park Street.

Construction Hours & Noise:

Construction will take place between 7 a.m. & 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and weekends if required. At this time no weekend work is approved or expected.

Landscaping on Boulevards:

If residents have personal belongings, planters or hedges within the road allowance, it is their responsibility to remove as the entire road allowance will be reconstructed. The project will include resodding all disrupted grass areas.

Trees on the Road Allowance:

Before construction begins all trees will be assessed and any that are deemed unsafe, showing significant decline, in conflict with the work being completed or placed under overhead hydro wires will be removed.

Property Access and Parking:

Access to driveways may be temporarily lost during construction and appropriate notice will be provided to residents in advance. Alternate parking will be available.

Curbside Garbage Collection:

The Contractor shall on garbage collection days make arrangements to pick-up garbage from residences within the active construction zone and place at a convenient location for collection. The contractor shall be responsible to return containers to each residence.

Water Disruptions:

Minor water disruptions may occur during the project to allow the contractor to connect households to the temporary supplies.

Project Funding:

Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund (OCIF) along with funds currently in the Townships infrastructure reserves.

Contract Administrator:

The Township of Wellesley has hired GEI Consultants to oversee and administer this project until completion including all design and drawing specifications, preliminary and ongoing inspections, utility locates and environmental concerns and permits.

Safety Tips:

When driving or walking through a construction zone please slow down and follow all signs including information about traffic conditions, road closures or detours. Consider other routes while construction is taking place and always watch your surroundings for uneven ground, tripping hazards, vehicles and machinery.
