This project is now complete. Please note that no final survey will be administered. In summer 2024, it was determined by Council that we will no longer implement safety improvements through a formal traffic calming program. We have moved to a hot spot improvement model instead. Traffic calming helps reduces the negative effects of traffic on neighborhood streets, communities, and public facilities like parks and schools.

We use traffic calming techniques when we cannot address concerns like these any other way:

  • Speeding
  • Collisions
  • Through traffic issues
  • Pedestrian safety
  • General traffic issues

City Council approved Manchester Road to be considered for traffic calming. Their decision was based on complaints, our review of traffic issues on Manchester Road, traffic data, and a comparison with other roadways. Before considering traffic calming measures, we will do a review. This review includes extensive public engagement. We will share information through a public meeting, called a Public Information Center (PIC). We will also assess different alternatives, based on social, economic, and environmental effects.

Above is a map of the study area we will review. This includes addresses on Manchester Road and other properties that may be affected.

On June 13th, 2022, the Community and Infrastructure Services Committee approved a recommendation for a formal traffic calming review of Manchester Road, which was ratified by Council in June 2022. As part of the Traffic Calming Policy, we require a minimum of 25% community support before a formal traffic calming review can be initiated. Residents directly affected by the traffic calming review were surveyed in fall 2022 and the minimum support was achieved to initiate the review.

The purpose of the review is to address traffic issues and concerns on along Manchester Road. Based on a comprehensive review and input received from residents through the initiation survey, we have evaluated traffic calming measures and developed a draft preferred traffic calming plan.

To obtain your feedback on the draft plan, there will be a virtual Public Information Centre scheduled for Wednesday, February 1, 2023, from 6:30 PM to 9:00 PM.

If you wish to attend this Public Information Centre, please use the Zoom meeting link below to access the virtual meeting.

If you are unable to attend the virtual meeting the presentation and draft traffic calming plan will be available on this page after the meeting for your review and feedback. Staff will also be available to connect with residents who wish to discuss the project and the draft traffic calming plan by their preferred means of communication.
