After extensive consultation with residents of Manchester Road, Council has directed staff to implement traffic calming measures. The measures are expected to help reduce automobile speeds and improve safety for street users. Speed humps proposed for the road will be installed after 92 per cent of respondents to a neighbourhood survey agreed with the recommended plan. The cost of the project is estimated at $30,000. Transportation Services has assessed the existing traffic conditions along Manchester Road and developed and evaluated alternative solutions in order to address resident concerns. A draft version of the preferred traffic calming plan was presented to area residents through a virtual public information centre held on February 1, 2023. Based on feedback from residents, the draft preferred plan has been finalized.
The preferred alternative will include the following measures:
- A speed hump located between #144 and #150 Manchester Rd
- A speed hump located at the intersection of Wedgewood Drive
- A speed hump located between #262 and #268 Manchester Rd
- A speed hump located between #336 and #364 Manchester Rd
- A speed hump located between #424 and #430 Manchester Rd
To indicate your support or opposition to the proposed traffic calming plan, please complete our final survey. We require that 50% of residents respond, with 60% in support of the preferred plan before work can proceed. Please note that each address will only have one vote. All directly affected residents of Manchester Road, as well as neighbouring roadways, are eligible to take part in this survey.
To request a paper copy of the survey, please contact Steven Ryder at 519-741-2200 ext 7152 or by email Steven.Ryder@kitchener.ca

On June 13th, 2022, the Community and Infrastructure Services Committee approved a recommendation for a formal traffic calming review of Manchester Road, which was ratified by Council in June 2022. As part of the Traffic Calming Policy, we require a minimum of 25% community support before a formal traffic calming review can be initiated. Residents directly affected by the traffic calming review were surveyed in fall 2022 and the minimum support was achieved to initiate the review.
The purpose of the review is to address traffic issues and concerns on along Manchester Road. Based on a comprehensive review and input received from residents through the initiation survey, we have evaluated traffic calming measures and developed a draft preferred traffic calming plan.
To obtain your feedback on the draft plan, there will be a virtual Public Information Centre scheduled for Wednesday, February 1, 2023, from 6:30 PM to 9:00 PM.
If you wish to attend this Public Information Centre, please use the Zoom meeting link below to access the virtual meeting.
If you are unable to attend the virtual meeting the presentation and draft traffic calming plan will be available on this page after the meeting for your review and feedback. Staff will also be available to connect with residents who wish to discuss the project and the draft traffic calming plan by their preferred means of communication.
