GRT Cambridge Transit Service Improvements
This project supports the Region of Waterloo's strategic focus area(s):
Starting Sept. 4, 2023, we are improving transit service in Cambridge for east Galt, north Galt, and Preston areas. The service expansion will add 18,000 service hours annually.
How is the Cambridge network changing?
- More direct travel options to major destinations including: Ainslie Terminal, South Cambridge Shopping Centre, Cambridge Centre Station, King/Bishop area and Franklin/Saginaw area.
- Expanded service to southeast Galt
- More service on evenings and weekends.
- Travel distances to some bus stops may be further in order to provide more direct service overall.
Visit the Cambridge Service Improvements page to see full descriptions of all the changes.

888 asked over 2 years agoRoute 56 would return to Cambridge Centre Station via Rose Street, Homuth Avenue, Bishop Street, Concession Road and Langs Drive (two-way service). Please refer to the proposed network map for more information: https://www.grt.ca/en/about-grt/resources/Cambridge_2022_Network_Map.pdf

Awesome123 asked almost 3 years agoThe new Route 65 Saginaw would operate every 30 minutes all day, 7 days a week. Evening service run later compared to the existing Route 75 service.
Route 65 would use existing stops on Can-Amera Parkway between Conestoga Boulevard and Franklin Boulevard. New stops are also being planned along new sections of the route (Baintree Way, Can-Amera Parkway and Arthur Fach Drive), and the exact stop locations would be shared in the future.

Awesome123 asked almost 3 years agoThere would be no changes to Route 67 Eagle-Pinebush. It would continue to operate weekday peak and late evenings only, running two-way via Eagle Street North, Pinebush Road and Sheldon Drive. Route 56 would service Eagle Street, one-way westbound from Laurel Street to Sherring Street.

aclcmc asked almost 3 years agoWe are looking to revise Route 56 to provide direct connections between Cambridge Centre Station, Langs Drive area, King/Bishop and Preston High School. Service along Dunbar Road would be removed to allow Route 56 to operate two-way along Langs Drive, which is an area with higher ridership.
GRT services are available nearby on King Street, Bishop Street, and Hespeler Road. Customers are now better able to access stops along these streets with the recently completed multi-use trail along Dunbar Road. Customers on the west end of Dunbar Road will also see improved service available at the intersection of King Street and Concession Road, including a new Route 206 iXpress stop and new weekend service on Route 50 Dundas.

Share Why is the route 53 eliminating the stops for all the industrial businesses on both Savage and Dobbie Drive? The map states it is an approximate walk of 5 minutes which is actually 10 minutes for someone that can walk quickly. Both Savage and Dobbie Drive don't have sidewalks so if the proposed improvement plan is approved you'd be forcing people to walk on the road (which is not snow plowed properly in the winter). Is it possible to include the eastern industrial park on the improved service route? on Facebook Share Why is the route 53 eliminating the stops for all the industrial businesses on both Savage and Dobbie Drive? RRD asked almost 3 years agoWe are looking to revise Route 53 to provide more direct service, 7 days a week between Ainslie Terminal, Champlain Boulevard area, South Cambridge Shopping Centre, and Cambridge Centre Station.
Service to Dobbie/Savage would be streamlined to accommodate the extension to Champlain Boulevard, which is an area with higher transit ridership.
We encourage transit riders to provide feedback as much as possible on the proposed network using the feedback form. Staff will review public feedback and evaluate whether additional service is warranted.
Staff would present an updated version the network at public information centre later this year.
