Galt Core Heritage Conservation District Survey

Thank you for your interest in the Galt Core Heritage Conservation District (HCD) Plan. The purpose of an HCD Plan is to develop policies, guidelines and procedures to help guide future changes in the District so that the area’s cultural heritage value is conserved.

A key feature and requirement of an HCD Plan is to define the types of changes that would require heritage permits. A heritage permit system is used to manage change in an HCD. The Ontario Heritage Act establishes that heritage permits are required in an HCD for the following activities:

  • Constructing new buildings or structures on property within the District;
  • Demolition or removal of heritage attributes of a property that relates to the District's cultural heritage values; and
  • Demolition or removal of buildings or structures on property within the District.

Activities that require a heritage permit would be subject to review and approval from Heritage Planning staff, the Municipal Heritage Advisory Committee and/or Council prior to proceeding.

The Ontario Heritage Act also recognizes that not all changes that occur within an HCD necessitate a permit. The goal of a heritage permit system within an HCD is to focus on reviewing activities that could significantly impact the District’s cultural heritage values and those which are public facing. The municipality can define what types of minor activities on a property would not require a permit.

This survey is intended to gain feedback from the community regarding the different ways that heritage permits can be implemented and the types of changes they can focus on. The survey is anticipated to take 15 - 20 minutes. Please share your feedback by May 20, 2022.

The feedback from this survey will be used to help inform the HCD Plan. To respect the confidentiality of all who provide feedback, the individual results or responses submitted to the survey will not be shared publicly.

Thank you for taking the time to complete the survey!
