The City of Cambridge is excited to announce the renewal of the iconic Rocketship playground at Churchill Park, located at 200 Christopher Dr. This beloved play structure has been a source of joy and adventure for children of all ages, and we are committed to enhancing its features to better serve our community.

Blast off into adventure at Churchill Park’s out-of-this-World playground!

Get ready for an intergalactic journey like no other! Our Space themed playground for Churchill Park is designed to inspire the explorer in every child, combining fun with physical and cognitive challenges in a way that’s truly out of this world. The park features a mix of activities that engage both the body and mind, with something for everyone. We’ve carefully incorporated the Five Fundamental Motions of Play: rocking, spinning, climbing, swinging, and sliding, to help the children of Cambridge develop vital motor skills, coordination, and spatial awareness. Prepare for blast-off as your imagination soars!

The Rocket Ship - a thrilling climb to new heights

Prepare for blast off! This custom, one of a kind rocket ship, is the park’s most exhilarating attraction. This towering rocket ship-inspired structure offers children a thrilling combination of speedy slides, gentle swaying, and challenging climbing opportunities. Rising high above the park, the see-through tower encourages interaction with friends while offering exhilarating views of the entire playground. The open and closed slides provide different kinds of excitement, from swift descents to smooth, winding rides. The varied climbing activities add choice for all, while the speedy stairs train cardio. The tower net and steep steps train cross-coordination, muscles and the sense of space. Muscle strength, balance, and spatial awareness are all tested and developed as children conquer these vertical challenges. Below, the play shells, talking tubes, hammocks, and tic-tac-toe boards invite children to gather, relax, and socialize in a space that fosters both play and community. It’s not just about physical development, this section of the structure also promotes empathy, self-regulation, and social skills as children learn how to play together, help one another, and take turns.

Sirius II - spin, bounce, and climb to new frontiers (Climbing Structure)

Next, we journey to the Galaxy Climber, Sirius II, a cosmic unconventional climber designed to captivate children ages 5-12 with its playful, out-of-this-world features. From its quirky design to its spinning, bouncing, and climbing challenges, the Sirius II is full of endless excitement. Kids will scale the curved climbing wall, using colourful cleats to reach the top before zipping down to the bouncy play shell seat for a quick rest. The climbing nets provide additional spaces for lounging or meeting up with friends. For a real thrill, the Musca spinner offers high-speed spins while the Rocking Tube presents a challenging climb that enhances balance, agility, and coordination. Not only is it fun, but climbing on the Rocking Tube helps kids build the essential skills needed for navigating obstacles in everyday life. Spinning also sharpens their sense of balance, a key foundation for focus and concentration.

Swinging Through Space – soaring high or gently rocking (Swings)

Our 2-Bay Swing Set offers a versatile experience, from high energy fun to calming, rhythmic motion. To improve the inclusivity of the swing set we have included a birdsnest seat. This seat is at wheelchair height, making for a smooth transition from wheelchair to birdsnest seat. Additionally, we have offered two belt seats. Swings help develop spatial awareness, and the gentle rocking motion provides comfort for children with Autism or sensory sensitivities, promoting relaxation amidst the excitement. The pendulum movement improves children’s coordination, balance, and agility, all of which are essential for navigating the world around them safely.
